Show-Stopping Performances Highlight 2023 Event

HOUSTON (March 30, 2023) – In front of a standing-room only crowd at the Bayou Music Center in downtown Houston and an ESPN2 national television audience Thursday night, the stars of college basketball shined brightly at the 2023 State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships. Iona’s Kate Mager, Detroit Mercy’s Antoine Davis and Georgia Southern’s Kamari Brown took home event championships in an evening full of show-stopping performances.

Mager had the most complete performance at the event, winning three event titles that showcased her long-range shooting prowess. She won the Celsius Women’s 3-Point Championship against an extremely competitive field, while also having a hand in winning the Applebee’s Team Shootout alongside Liberty’s Darius McGhee and Milwaukee’s Ahmad Rand. She then took home the Rocket Mortgage Battle of the Champions against Davis. In her four rounds of three-point shooting, she totaled 94 out of a possible 120 points, finishing with scores of 25, 24, 23 and 22.

Although outdone in the Rocket Mortgage Battle of the Champions, Davis was as electrifying in his 3-point shooting efforts in winning the TaxAct Men’s 3-Point Championship. He opened the event with 25 points in the opening round, before posting back-to-back 18-point efforts in the semifinals and final to earn the event title.

The King’s Hawaiian Slam Dunk contest featured highlight reel dunk after highlight reel dunk. Five of the eight attempted dunks in the semifinals were perfect scores, with Brown and Radford’s Shaquan Jules each having two perfect dunks to advance to the final, while Rand also had a perfect score in one of his two efforts. In the final, it was Brown who came away with the win over Jules.
